Naawi-Oodena Master Plan

The Master Planning of the former Kapyong Barracks is a landmark project not only for the Treaty One First Nations, but also for Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Canada, for generations to come.

The redevelopment of the lands has the potential to:

• help shape Winnipeg’s future urban growth;
• generate significant economic investment, and;
• connect communities.

Pattern designs by Destiny Seymour

The Niswi pattern (above) is based on a pottery pattern from Treaty One territory dating back over 3,000 years. Niwsi means ‘Three’ in Anishinaabemowin.

The Bezhig patterns (below) are based on a pattern from an Elk Antler Bone tool, dating over 4,000 years old, uncovered near Birtle, Manitoba. Bezhig means ‘One’ in Anishinaabemowin.
