A Day in the Life: Alec Joins Treaty One for Take Our Kids to Work Day

As part of Take Our Kids to Work Day, we were joined by Alec Whitford-Morgan, son of Treaty One Nations Executive Director Jason Whitford!

Each year, this national initiative gives Grade 9 students the chance to explore future careers, learn from real-world experiences, and see what their parents and guardians do in their everyday workplaces.

Having started the morning over a breakfast meeting between his father and key partners, Alec spent the rest of his day at the Treaty One Nations and Treaty One Development Corporation office for a behind-the-scenes look at how Treaty One Nations is building opportunities for our seven member communities.

Alec even sat in our very first Naming Committee Framework discussion, where we brainstormed what the naming processes for future developments at Naawi-Oodena should look like. In just this one meeting, Alec witnessed glimpse of history in the making from the earliest planning stages—the beginnings of work whose impacts will be felt by Alec’s generation and those to come as the true beneficiaries of the work being done today!

When asked what he wants to do for a living, Alec shared that he is highly considering the trades industry, taking inspiration from relatives who have made steady careers as electricians. As an economic development arm of the Treaty One Nations, there are few better places to learn about the trades and how they connect to large-scale projects like Naawi-Oodena!

Miigwech to Alec for bringing his curiosity, inquisitive questions, and outstanding enthusiasm to the office today. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours!
