Heartfelt Condolences Extended To Family on Passing of Maurice Sutherland

The Treaty One Nation Government sends its heartfelt condolences to the Treaty One Development Corporation (T1DC), CEO Whelan Sutherland on the sudden passing of his father, Maurice Sutherland.

“We also extend our most sincere condolences to Gladys, Maurice’s wife of 53 years, and to their seven children and 42 grandchildren and great-grandchildren,” said spokesperson, Chief Dennis Meeches.  “Maurice is a great loss to the community of the Peguis First Nation and will be truly missed by all his friends from near and far.”

Maurice Sutherland was a founding member of Manitoba Uske and sat as the Director on the National Aboriginal Lands Manager Association (NALMA).  His tireless work and dedication to the betterment of his people was evident not only in his community, but throughout the province of Manitoba.

“Maurice was a hard worker and a respected Knowledge Keeper whose generous nature, excellent leadership, and friendship will be sorely missed by many,” Chief Meeches concluded. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. May you rest in peace, Maurice Sutherland.”
