Orange Shirt Day Walk & Run
Treaty One Nations invites everyone to join us for the inaugural Orange Shirt Day Treaty One Run & Walk on Sunday, September 27, 2026, beginning at the Assiniboia Residential School Monument in Winnipeg. The free 5 km Run & Walk will bring together Residential School Survivors, families, First Nations communities, youth, and members of the public to honour Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and recognize the strength and resilience of Survivors, families, and communities. EVENT DETAILS Date: Sunday, September 27, 2026 Location: Assiniboia Residential School Monument, 621 Academy Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba Check-in: 10:00 AM Run & Walk: 11:00 AM Distance: 5 km Cost: FREE Registration: Register for the Orange Shirt Day Treaty One Run & Walk Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome. OPENING CEREMONY The gathering will begin with an opening ceremony at the Assiniboia Residential School Monument before participants head out on the 5 km route. The ceremony will include prayer, an Honour Song, acknowledgements of Residential School Survivors and Elders, and a historical reflection on the Assiniboia Residential School and its lasting impacts. RUN & WALK ROUTE The 5 km course will begin at the former Assiniboia Residential School site and travel through the surrounding area before returning to Theodore Fontaine Park. Following the Run & Walk, participants are invited to gather at the finish area for refreshments and to connect with community partners, cultural displays, and educational resources.
