Turning the Page: Construction Commences on Naawi-Oodena Business Park

Historic Milestone in Land Repatriation Journey

April 26, 2024 – Treaty No. 1 Territory – After 20 years of sitting empty, Treaty One Development Corp. (T1DC) is proud to announce that the first phase of construction has finally begun on the repatriated lands now called Naawi-Oodena!

“Through perseverance and partnership, we've transformed two decades of challenges into opportunities for our Nations and the Winnipeg community as a whole,” stated T1DC President and Sagkeeng First Nation Chief EJ Fontaine. “This milestone isn't just about buildings; it is a testament to the commitment of the Treaty One Nations and our allies to build towards a brighter future for all. This is the beginning of a new chapter for Nations across Turtle Island.”

This week, PCL Construction touched down to lay the groundwork on Block A of the former military base lands. Located on the northeast corner of Kenaston Boulevard and Taylor Avenue, this 7.66-acre site will be home to the Treaty One Development Corporation Business Park, a commercial mixed-use zone that will house 130,000 sq. ft of commercial space alongside a 95,000 sq. ft commercial centre. The entire build for this parcel is estimated to be completed by 2028, with Oodena Gas Bar being the first building expected to be completed and operating by January 2025.
