JORDANS PRINCIPLE/CHILD FIRST INITIATIVE:  Provides an opportunity for every child to receive the resources and supports
they need to help them thrive and flourish in their home and community. In order to enhance educational experiences
and cultural knowledge and practices, a Land Based Education Program is presently being developed as a partnership
between the Sergeant Tommy Prince School and Jordan’s Principle Program. This educational initiative will eventually
offer all students an opportunity to learn from teachings, history and experience, about their ancestry; and the skills and
customs of their local Culture.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Land Based Education Facilitator will help to develop and design an experiential, culture-based educational program along with a team of educators, cultural workers and other community members who are strong in cultural knowledge and land-based skills. The Facilitator must also have the skill and knowledge to teach and
implement the program, so students learn authentic life skills and ancestral teachings of the Anishinaabe Culture, including hunting, fishing, trapping, gathering, etc. The goal is for youth to develop skills and knowledge that empower them to feel capable and better understand their identity. The Facilitator will also supervise Land Based Education Assistants who share this knowledge and skill base, purchase and maintain equipment and supplies for the Program and demonstrate best practice when it comes to technique and safety.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Excellent knowledge of local culture and practices and demonstrated skill through on-going participation in
  community activities and events.
• Ability to teach and share cultural knowledge and practices with students from Kindergarten to Grade 9.
• Ability to design, develop and implement (along with a team, including educators, Elders, and community
  members), an on-the-land education program.
• Ability to recruit and co-ordinate local resources to provide cultural experiences and teachings that are relevant to
  the community of BON.
• Skilled in the various land activities, including hunting, fishing, trapping, etc..
• Ability to speak the Ojibway language would be an asset.
• Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings and extended times away.
• Ability to work as a team member and take initiative.
• Willing to submit to pre-employment drug test and future random drug and alcohol testing.
• Proven record of punctuality and reliability.
