Seasons Greetings from Treaty One: Meet Our 2025 Christmas Card Contest Winner!

Denise Roy, of Peguis First Nation, presents the original canvas artwork that was submitted for our 2025 Christmas Card Contest

As we welcome the holiday season, we are pleased to share our 2025 Treaty One Christmas card—featuring original artwork by Denise Roy of Peguis First Nation!

This year, we again invited members of the seven Treaty One Nations—Brokenhead Ojibway Nation, Long Plain First Nation, Peguis First Nation, Roseau River Anishinaabe First Nation, Sagkeeng First Nation, Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation, and Swan Lake First Nation—to submit designs that reflect the spirit of the season. We were honoured to receive dozens of thoughtful and creative submissions, each bringing its own perspective and meaning.

After careful consideration, Denise’s hand-painted design stood out for its strong storytelling, bold use of colour, and the winter scene it portrays—a Treaty One tipi beneath the northern lights on a clear winter night. Her work reflects both cultural pride and the quiet beauty of the season.

Denise was born in Winnipeg and now lives in Beausejour, with roots in Peguis First Nation. She has been creating art since a young age and draws inspiration from First Nation culture, history, and the natural world. Her painting is shared with pride this year as Treaty One’s official Christmas card, being sent to our communities, partners, allies, and leadership this holiday season.

From all of us at Treaty One, we wish you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season and a happy New Year!
