Kapyong Public Engagement Goes Virtual

KAPYONG PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT GOES VIRTUAL
Detailed Website & Webinar Replace Face-to-Face Sessions, Due to COVID-19

May 19, 2020 – Manitobans interested in learning the latest on the re-development plans at the former Kapyong Barracks in Winnipeg can now do so from the comfort of their own homes. This is a change from the face-to-face public engagement sessions that were originally scheduled at the end of March.

“On behalf of the Treaty 1 First Nation Chiefs, I am pleased to present our communities and Manitobans with a draft Master Plan reflecting our aspirations for this landmark re-development in Winnipeg,” said Chairperson, Chief Dennis Meeches. “This coming together in unity will ensure lasting benefits for all.”

Despite COVID-19 and the inability to hold in-person engagement sessions, Treaty 1 Development Corporation (T1DC) CEO, Whelan Sutherland said, “I expect even larger rates of participation, given that plans can easily be viewed online.”

Visitors are invited to visit the project website at www.treaty1.ca/kapyong to review full details of the Master Plan including project aspirations, concept plans, community character, historical context as well as maps and images. A virtual webinar is also slated for Wednesday, June 17 at 7:00 p.m. with registration available online on the T1DC website.

“Feedback and input from the community are valued and essential to us as we continue to finalize plans to work as one toward creating a new community that seamlessly connects with existing neighbourhoods,” said Chris Elkey, Vice President, Real Estate (West), Canada Lands Company.

The community is encouraged to complete the online survey and sign up for regular email updates as the former Kapyong Barracks development continues to move forward.
