Executive Director

PURPOSE

The Executive Director (ED) is the senior leader responsible for guiding Treaty One Nations Inc. (T1N) in fulfilling its mandate to advance collective self-governance, economic development, and community well-being across Treaty One Territory. This role oversees strategic planning, governance compliance, stakeholder engagement, and organizational operations, with a strong focus on land optimization, self-determination, and the sustainable growth of Treaty One Lands. The ED will ensure implementation of key governance frameworks and lead initiatives that reflect the values and aspirations of the seven Treaty One First Nations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the implementation of the Treaty One Joint Reserve Land Code and Governance & Management Agreement.

  • Develop and execute strategic plans aligned with Treaty One priorities.

  • Oversee day-to-day operations and ensure effective departmental coordination and performance.

  • Support the Treaty One Development Corporation (T1DC) on economic and infrastructure development.

  • Foster partnerships with government bodies, industry stakeholders, and Indigenous organizations.

  • Advocate for Treaty One rights, interests, and priorities across all levels of government and public forums.

  • Ensure compliance with legal, governance, and regulatory standards.

  • Represent T1N at events, forums, and negotiations to elevate the organization’s influence.

  • Lead the creation and enforcement of policies and laws that uphold Treaty One self-governance.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Indigenous Governance, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

  • 7–10 years of senior leadership experience, preferably in Indigenous governance, land management, or community development.

  • Demonstrated experience in governance structures, land codes, and implementation of self-governance agreements.

  • Acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Deep knowledge of Treaty One First Nations’ culture, history, and inherent rights.

  • Proven success in partnership building and stakeholder relations.

  • Strong financial oversight, budgeting, and resource management skills.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and advocacy communication abilities.

  • Familiarity with Indigenous governance, land stewardship, and policy development.

  • Collaborative, culturally sensitive, and community-driven leadership style.

  • High standards of integrity, accountability, and strategic focus.
