POSITION SUMMARY: The Brokenhead Ojibway Nation is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the full-time position of Community Wellness Worker. Under direct supervision of the Wellness Coordinator the Wellness Worker will provide a wide range of community-based mental health services prevention and intervention support services to clients and their families/caregivers through the provision of workshops and educational programming. Strives to make mental health a priority, promoting mental well-being and reducing the stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness, and strives to improve and enhance the services available to individuals while recognizing the need for family participation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Grade XII education, or its equivalent in education and/or experience, is required for this position. A diploma in community wellness is desirable
  • Current training required and/or be willing to obtain training within the first 6 months of hire include Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), PHIA, Cultural Diversity, CPR First Aid, Sexual Assault Awareness, Crisis Intervention, Suicide, and Self-Harm Awareness, Workplace Safety, and Emergency Response training, in conjunction with specific program-required training
  • Complete confidentiality is essential to this position
  • Good knowledge of public health programs, good management skills, and good written and oral communication and presentation skills are essential, as are tact, diplomacy, interpersonal skills, the ability to coach and educate others, be genuine with his/herself and clients and to gain trust, have flexibility, and the proven ability to be an effective team member
  • Must obtain an up-to-date Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check if over the age of 18 years
  • Must be willing to submit to a pre-employment drug test and future random drug testing
  • Must have a valid Manitoba driver’s license and reliable vehicle
  • Please include 3 employer references with your resume
  • Computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office software and programs
  • Must have a valid Manitoba driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle
