Merhawit Zegeye

Merhawit currently serves as the Financial Controller for the Treaty One Development Corporation and Treaty One Nations Inc. It is a privilege for Merhawit to be part of the team working tirelessly to make Treaty One Territory, and Canada as a whole, a better place for the generations to come.

Merhawit was born and raised in Eritrea and immigrated to Canada in November 2006, later becoming a Canadian citizen through naturalization. Merhawit has a background in accounting and worked as an auditor for the Inland Revenue Department in the Eritrean Ministry of Finance. She loves anything related to numbers and is very organized, punctual, friendly, easy to get along with, and a fast learner.

After moving to Canada, like many immigrants, she faced challenges such as language barriers, culture shock, and adjusting to the weather. However, these challenges did not break her; instead, they helped her become a better version of herself. She worked as a Support Worker while studying to fulfill her dreams.

After becoming a mother, Merhawit worked in various sectors, both related and unrelated to accounting, including as a tax preparer with H&R Block, and graduated as an Accounting and Payroll Administrator (APA). Although she has had many proud moments, her proudest is being the mother of her two lovely children alongside her husband.
