App Developer for Treaty One Ojibwe Language

Treaty One Development Corporation was registered as a corporation on July 12, 2018. The Directors of the Corporation are the Chiefs of the seven First Nations signatory to Treaty One. The Ojibwe Language component of Treaty One Development Corporation is inviting the expertise of qualified App Developers to submit a proposal for an Ojibwe App Development.

The revitalization of Ojibwe language is of vital importance to preserving the Anishinaabe culture. Language and culture are intimately entwined and cannot be separated. The purpose of the language app is to work with the language communities to develop a plan to revitalize and preserve the Ojibwe language and culture. First Nations language revitalization will help to build community cohesion and promote pride and solidarity in First Nation communities.


The App Developer will be working with our collaborative team, where your knowledge and advice about application architecture and the newest mobile technologies will be highly appreciated. The code will need to be cleanly organized and of the highest quality. The App Developer will also help to ensure solid application performance and an excellent user experience. The App Developer will have extensive knowledge about mobile app development, this includes the whole process from the first line of code publishing and a deep knowledge of Android and iOS.

Previous experience of software development on tablet and mobile devices is an asset. The App Developer will be expected to guide the development of the app in conjunction with the project team. The App Developer must have experience in app development in a team environment taking in the requirements of the various stakeholders and future users of the app. The App Developer must have experience in both front end user interface development as well as back end development to host the infrastructure required by the app.

The App Developer will be required to record and play sounds in the app so that the users may hear the correct pronunciation of the words. Further, the app must record and play the user’s pronunciation so that they can hear their pronunciation compared to the fluent speaker’s pronunciation. The App Developer must have experience with sound as well as user interface development.

An engineering mindset and perspective as well as a cultural mindset will be required in order to deliver an app that most effectively delivers the learning material in a way that remains true to the cultural foundation of the language.


Completion of App by February 15, 2023.
